Beyond The Comfort Zone

Taking a leap

Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway

After a gathering of minds on Friday, spurred on by a fascinating suggestion by a friend, I started to think about how often I have pushed myself out of my comfort zone in my lifetime.

Heck, I’ve taken some risks in my time and really pushed myself out of my comfort zone, simply because I knew I just had to in order to get ahead in life and move closer to the life I had always envisaged.  I can imagine the people who were sat in that group on Friday have also done the same, many times over.

Personally, I have often said to people around me who want to take a scary leap into the unknown or into the uncomfortable, that “I have frequently thrown myself off the deep-end” because I just knew in my heart that a better life awaited me.

I also knew that better life, those greater successes, that growth in my character, were not going to come to me; I would have to go to them.  Indeed, I have been proved right every time.  I am now in a much better place mentally, physically and spiritually than I once was, simply because I forced myself to go beyond my comfort zone.

One of many examples that come to mind is the time I left a very well paid job and took a massive backwards step, just because I knew I wasn’t going to attain the life I wanted or deserved, working there.

Was it uncomfortable, scary, and risky?  Absolutely!

Was it worth it?  No words can describe just how worth it pushing your personal boundaries is but the experience itself is exhilarating.

Was it exciting?  Without a doubt!

Whatever you need to do to change your situation for the better, comes with a test of character.  Whether it’s your career, relationship or something else, by stretching yourself out of your comfort zone, you will move closer towards your goal.

When you build your character, you will become a more refined version of yourself.  If computers and mobile phones and software are always being updated, shouldn’t we always be updating ourselves?  Our brains are the most sophisticated computers.  Why would we want to remain as version 2.0?

When you become a more refined version of yourself, your self-esteem will increase and you will be able to achieve even more in your future.  Life is about learning, growing and achieving until your time on Earth is over.

Don’t let worry and anxiety that you’ve built up in your mind stop you.  We usually worry about things unduly.  Remember, you don’t leap across from who you are and where you are now, in one massive jump, in order to achieve what you want to achieve.  You take small jumps, but they’re still jumps because you still have to stretch yourself in order to grow.  If you can’t jump just yet, take a large stride until you can, but tell yourself that you will make the jump soon after as time is always passing us by, and cannot be regained.

Go, push yourself, get out of your comfort zone, and you will reap the rewards!
